My Bloody Valentine (1981)

Valentine’s Day will never be the same again…

There’s a big Valentine dance planned in the little mining town of Valentine’s Bluff. It is the first Valentine dance in 20 years, because of an accident in the mine. The accident happened because the men responsible for the security were at the party. The sole surviving miner killed them, and told the town never to arrange another Valentine dance again.

On Valentine’s Day 20 years before, an explosion of methane gas took the lives of a group of miners working in the Hanniger Mine. The accident occurred because the supervisors of the mine left their posts to attend the annual Valentine’s Day dance.

A year afterward, Harry Warden – the only survivor of the horrible accident retaliated by killing the two supervisors, and leaving a terrifying warning to never to hold another Valentine’s Day dance again.

Now, a group of young adults decides to hold another dance, despite the warnings warnings. When a blood-soaked heart arrives at the police station, accompanied by an ominous message, the dance is cancelled. But a Valentine party is held in its place, and it isn’t long before the town’s young people begin dying again. It appears Harry Warden has returned to punish those who did not heed his warning…

My Bloody Valentine is a classic early 80’s teen slasher. The movie is infamous for having 9 minutes cut by the MPAA, because of the gore. Attempts to release this footage have proven difficult, as Paramount Pictures has refused to release an uncut version.
